It is a growing fad in today’s generation to take care of their nails and have it cleaned once in a while. There are also artificial nails or nail extensions available in some nail parlours that you can choose especially if you have always dreamed of that perfect long nails without facing the problem of the nail polish chipping. Though most girls still want to have their natural nails than have those expensive nail extensions done.

Because of that, nail growth products have also been a thing especially for those that have tried once and have experienced that their nails definitely grew long in a short span of time and they seem to be a lot stronger too. Speaking of strong, aside of just waiting for nail growth products to do their thing, you should also put some effort by following some simple steps on how to take care of it.

 

Nails need nutrients too

Your nails are made up of mostly protein, supported by other nutrients that help new nail cells grow. Keratin is the primary protein that makes up nail cells. Calcium is an important mineral that gives strength to the rigid structures in your body, like bones, teeth and nails. Biotin contributes to nail strength and keeps your nails from drying out. Top foods for nail health: Eggs, salmon, beans, spinach, dairy, blueberries, almonds and beer.

 

Protect you Nails

In order to prevent bacteria from growing under your fingernails, you should keep it dry and clean always. Repeated or prolonged contact with water can contribute to split fingernails. Wear cotton-lined rubber gloves when washing dishes, cleaning or using harsh chemicals.

Drink lots o’ water!

Your body needs two to three litres of water daily to function at its best. When you are dehydrated, your body shunts water to your internal organs and away from your hair, skin and nails, leaving them dry, weak and brittle. This can improve not only your nail growth but also your overall health.

Calcium gels and nail hardeners can really make your nails stronger. However, you can’t expect results right away, you need to give it some time and use the product regularly in order for you to see the results. It’s like maintenance, but for your nails.

Control yourselves over Nail polish

Although colourful nails are quite cool and looks pretty, nail polish actually does a lot of damage to your nails. The reason is that nail polishes contain acetone, which makes your nails soft. Don’t manicure your nails more often than once a week and buy only high quality nail polishes. If your nail polish has passed its expiration date, throw it right away.

Take it easy on removing your cuticles

One of the biggest mistakes many girls do when it comes to their nails is cutting the cuticles. This should never be done. Instead, apply cuticle remover gel or cream and gently push your cuticles with a cuticle stick.

Following these simple guidelines are not enough to ensure that your nails gets the best of the best. You also have to ask for opinions and experiences when buying a product that “supposedly” can help in taking care of your nails. Putting in an extra effort goes a long way and pretty soon you’ll have one of the prettiest nails around!
